Hannah Starr 14U Gold, Alyssa Carlson 16U, and gtfa president, rick tekip

“Alyssa is a Titan through and through. She has now carried her passion for the program into coaching her younger sister’s team the past few years, and Alyssa has NEVER wavered year-to-year on her decision to stay with our team. She and I have fostered a very strong relationship, and she is 100% bought in to our overarching goals of developing confident, successful young women through this game.”

16U Coach Rick Tekip

Sammy Cipolla

In 2010, our award was established in Sammy’s memory after her two-year battle with cancer. Sammy is remembered fondly as a young woman of many talents, a six-year veteran of Titans softball and all-conference member of the Glenbrook South High School softball team.

Take a moment to celebrate a Titan off the field with a donation to any of these charities important to Sammy. A small annual donation by every member of the Titans family can make a big difference.

Read Sammy’s blog and learn more about her.

“Hannah’s dedication to the game is unmistakable. She is often the first to respond to the coach’s directions and is consistently out on the field, eager to work. Her commitment to softball extends beyond team practices and games, as she dedicates significant time to her personal development, always striving to improve her skills. Moreover, Hannah genuinely celebrates the success of her team and is deeply invested in the success of her teammates. She remains positive and encouraging, even in difficult moments, and actively seeks opportunities to help others succeed.

14U Gold Coaches Brian Starr, Nancy Bein, & James Petrungaro

What is the Sammy Cipolla Award?

Every fall, the GTFA humbly presents the Sammy Cipolla Award to remember a player who greatly influenced her teammates and played with awe-inspiring enthusiasm.

We celebrate the Titans players who best epitomize Sammy's attributes, both on and off the field. One player is nominated from each team who:

  • Shows courage and a calm inspiration by approaching seemingly challenging situations with confidence and ease;

  • Exhibits a unique softball IQ;

  • Displays a superior work ethic and passion for the game of softball;

  • Raises the morale and performance of the entire team through her contagious, positive and enthusiastic nature, and;

  • Demonstrates true camaraderie by always supporting teammates and celebrating their triumphs.
